New Features Added at Women's Home

While I was visiting the women's home in September of 2007, several new features were added to the program.  We purchased a ping pong table, "frog" game (not certain of the Spanish word), and several board games for the women and teens to use during their recreation time.  These additions will also be used as incentives for positive behavior.

Pictured here:  the girls are enjoying the new ping pong table in the Proverbs 31 Family Room on the 4th floor of the new building.  A TV (with DVD player) has also been donated for this room.  We have 25+ Christian DVD's in the new library as well as 200+ books in Spanish.

Here is the new "frog" game, which is very popular in Peru.  Pastor Lilliam declares herself as the Champion (we'll have to see about that!).  And, no, it is not a slot machine even though it does have slots!!!

While I was visiting the women's home in September, the residents surprised me with a birthday cake and sang several songs to me.  Of course, they all wanted their pictures taken with me (or maybe with the cake).  Here is one example (I deeply appreciate their thoughtfulness):

The girls love pizza!  Here they are enjoying a pizza lunch in the new Martha Dining Hall:

We have just purchased 40 new desks for the Mary and Lydia Classrooms on the 3rd floor.  I am returning to Lima at the end of October to inaugurate the new literacy classes (both in English and Spanish).  We are raising funds for the textbooks and workbooks for these classes ($40 per resident - we need at least 30).  This is an important addition to the program, especially since so many of the residents are now teenagers.  I will be taking some Math books and teacher materials (Spanish editions) that have been donated.  Pray for a volunteer teacher to work with the Math instruction.

Also, Bev Gibson and Brenda Freeman of Vessels of Mercy (Richmond, Virginia) will be taking a team of ladies in November to spend one week at the home teaching "The Search for Significance" materials.  They will be able to use the new classrooms for their presentations.  Bev and Brenda have visited the women's home in the past as part of our ministry teams.  They will also explore the possibility of taking a medical team next year.  You can learn more about their world-wide ministry at  www.vesselsofmercy.org.

We are also installing a bread-making program as a way to teach skills to the residents and also to generate income for the home.  We are working to secure a contract with a public agency to furnish bread for them.  This would be a great asset to the program.

Applications are being submitted for several food distribution programs that might be able to supplement the supply of food at the home (grains, rice, milk, etc.).  Pray for God's favor on these applications.

Thank you for your continued support of this important ministry.  There are several remaining projects that need financial support, in addition to the issue of the monthly support.  Your continued prayers for Pastor Lilliam, the women, and the challenges of the ministry at the Nancy Cole Women's Home are much needed!
